Fun Indoor Activities for Kids in Sevilla: Torre del Oro

In my on-going quest to find fun indoor activities for kids in Spain, let's go to the oldest tower in Sevilla, the Torre de Oro.

The Torre del Oro was built in 1221. It's free* to visit and is basically like climbing a small (three story) lighthouse.

The spiral stone steps of the Torre del Oro are moderately steep and parts only have hand railings on one side, which gets a bit complicated as people start moving up and down on the same narrow staircase.

There is a small, interesting museum on the second floor with model ships and an impressive lady figurehead/bowsprit. On the ground floor, there are cannons, which Don Loco greatly admired.

The open viewing area at the top has a clear fence that keeps people away from the edges, good for preschoolers, but it also means there's not much of a view for them.

There is also a small staircase on the viewing deck that leads to a very small (fits one-two people) platform--it was a traffic jam of people posing for endless selfies at the top, and tbh, the view wasn't that much better up there.

Notes: there is very limited air-conditioning (basically on the bottom floor only) and it can get quite stuffy inside the building in the summer. There are no bathrooms.

Logistics: Torre del Oro is located right next to the Puerta de Jerez along the Guadalquivir River. You cannot miss it. Many busses stop right there.

*Admission is by donation.
