Fun Indoor Activities for Preschoolers in Madrid: Museo de Ciencias Naturales Review

In my quest to find fun, indoor activities for preschoolers in Madrid*, I present to you the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales.

If you want dinosaurs, they got dinosaurs. Meteorites, crystals, giant stuffed elephant, whale skeleton, astronauts etc. A  classic behind-the-glass 19th-century style museum, which means it's not super preschooler-friendly. Not very interactive (you can touch some fossil models, etc but that is basically it.) The workshops for school kids look really fun, though (decorate a dinosaur mask, learn how whales eat, etc).

Where: It's pretty conveniently located between two Metro stops, Gregorio Marañón and Nuevos Ministeros. Very, very easy to pick up a taxi on the avenue in front of the museum

Cost: 7 euros, free for the under 4s, discounted/free admission for certain groups

Museum logistics: It's separated in two buildings, buy tickets on the far side where the car park is located. No cafeteria although there is a kiosco out front where a lot of students and staff from the Escuela de Ingeniería Industrial were snacking. Small bathrooms hidden away behind the gift shop, although they do have a large unisex handicap bathroom suitable for diaper changing. There are some stairs and very small elevators for strollers.

Fun for Preschoolers rating: 5/10. Don Loco was impressed at the bones, but a little disappointed that the dinosaurs did not dance and sing as they do on television. Probably 10/10 if you do one of the fun workshops and tours.

Crocodile or dinosaur? Good question
